Subjects or Models Recommendations with Thanks to Eric Clayton for image above on this page :
Hi for the boats and conceptual shoots please attempt to bring:
A hat
Sunscreen
Bonds Singlet and Briefs Skin Colour , i jest not ideal for modesty and i can edit these out when i need to.
A towel
Drink Bottle
Snack of your choice
Warm Jumper
Jewellery is often best left at home, boats are outdoors.
I generally try to bring all of the above, but its great if everyone has some of the above, and i always have drinks and an esky if we are actually going out on a boat and life jackets etc obviously. There is always a First Aid kit on the boat if we are leaving the shore, but so far its been very uneventful happily.
What i am looking for is " unposing" very simple natural postures, standing, lying, sitting just like a regular person. I will mimic what i mean if you feel uncomfortable just say so its ok, they are very simple poses and not sexualised in any way.
Its the opposite of model "posing" in a more regular way.
Imagine that we are kids i suppose or in an environment where no one can see us, no one observing we are just there being in that place. Just regular people being alive, hanging out.
Its also ok to just lie down under the sail cloth in the small boat its well padded, please if its hurting say so i can add more padding, and chill out and enjoy the small boat and the water and just relax, thats cool as well. Watching the sky is wonderful from the small boat.
The actual shooting time can be very "tight' its important to me that people do not get cold or wet or scared on the small boat when i am actually shooting so i do a quick talk before we all get into position. Its also important to remember that even though its a fun thing to do its is water and boats and we do need to comply with the safety stuff. Nothing has ever happened happily though.
Then we can chill out and have some fun. Its really a terrific day out and should be really lovely for everyone and we can all do some location shooting etc.
Makeup and Jewellery On Boats / In General
Some subjects need their "face" to feel comfortable and i understand this. I personally shoot women just with a tinted moisturiser, some clever foundation and lipgloss all the time as i know about soft light and retouching.
Tinted moisturiser over foundation is great it doesn't dry out under the outdoors conditions, some sunglasses really essential and some lipgloss.
A spray atomiser can be great to keep your face really soft and natural. In the outdoors the makeup gets dehydrated rapidly and reflects light in a high contrast way this is not ideal, if wearing makeup is really important to you as a person and i understand that then its best to bring an atomiser and wear a hat and please try the most neutral lipstick colour you are comfortable with.
I can retouch the skin to a fab level if i am given a canvas of a soft foundation, tinted moisturiser, very little powder, no lipliner it makes a contrasty line in the photo but a lipgloss and then the lipcolour blotted into the centre of the lip looks better, and a lip colour thats fairly neutral.
I can also not show photographs with your face, thats totally ok also :).
Consent and Photography
I do not ever photograph a person without asking or without being invited to do so. When we are preparing for a shoot i will have a range of modesty garments for you if thats best for your needs. Its better if subjects control their level of dress or undress.
Once we have shot i will send you small sized images so you can see that the photos are " ok" ie not degrading or awful and its always been totally fine. Sometimes with commercial shooting only you will publish the images, and thats normal, if the images are for my work i will run them past you first. There may be some negs that are only suitable for print copies and others for social media or internet.
Do not worry i wont take one of you with your pants looking silly and post it on instagram and ask that you show the same consideration to others at the shoot :).
I also ask for discretion about shoot locations and addresses of myself and other people attending.
Its all good :)
In the event of me actually selling a print containing your image i will use your email address supplied to let you know, show you the print and send you a print or a cheque thats something i feel very strongly about.
